Virtualbox on Arch

virtualbox, windows

I wanted a Windows virtual machine in my arch installation and it was a bit of a hassle to actually get things working. Now that I have, I think it would be good to document things.

Without further ado.

VirtualBox

Make sure to first update your system. This may cause issues with the kernel and how virtualbox get's set up.

paru

Next install virtualbox:

paru virtualbox virtualbox-host-dkms

Load virtualbox, this will happen automatically on boot:

sudo modprobe vboxdrv

Install the guest additions:

paru virtualbox-guest-iso

Install Windows

I then installed Windows using massgrave

I set up a 40gb hard drive, 8gb of RAM and 2 CPU cores. The unattended installation went great and I basically got a Windows machine after 15 minutes.

I had to then install the guest additions so that my screen resized properly.

After that I installed my work VPN and it looks like everything is now working.
