The Fall of the House of Usher

I was tricked into watching this show as my cousin and my brother know that I don't like watching series. They had told me we were watching a horror movie and got me to watch 3 episodes of the show.

It worked because it did hook me into finishing the series and I enjoyed it very much. The show wasn't as horror as the Haunting of Hill House but it was good. It never really had any tension or dread but the gore and some of the ideas in the show were frightening.

What really hooked me was seeing the entire family and how they all interacted with each other. I wish we got more of that but every episode a person dies so it got very small very quickly. By far my favourite character was Madeline. She was a strong person. Roderick was great and the old man who gave the overlong monologues was also great. I feel like he was 1 step away from having the gravitas that Iw ould have liked.

I think the backstory of the twins was great but I wish they showed Roderick being more womanizing as the only parts we see about him are that he loves his first wife very much. He turns evil at some point but we don't see it in the past. Madeline is different in that we can see her younger version turn into her older one and it fits.

One of the core things I noticed was that Madeline always pushed Roderick but at the table with Verna, it was Madeline that was hesitant and Roderick that pushed on with eveyrthing. I love that.

Now for the characters.

Prospero was a great character and his hedonistic life was cool. His death was great and all because of his own stupidity.

Camille died investigating her sister and having her assisants bang her was hilarious. I burst out laughing when they showed the assistants get on the bed with their heads in their hands while Camille looks on.

Leo dying was sad and I was really starting to like him. He was a giant dick to his boyfriend at the end. I thought he might be the most caring and human person of the Usher children but he wasn't.

Victorine had the most brutal story and it blew me away. She had killed her girlfriend and then gotten killed by Roderick.

Tamerline died tragically, this was the death that felt the most pushed on by Verna.

Fredrick was hilarious in the entire thing and he was a giant piece of shit. I loved how much Verna hated him and how she said that it was because in another life he was a dentist that it made what he did to Morie so foul. His death was intense.

Lenore got the most beautiful death and she truly was the best of the Usher family.

Madeline and Roderick both died together much like how their mother and father died.

Rufus Griswald was a guy. He wasn't terrible but he got a terrible end.

Augy was a the detective and he definitely matched up well with Roderick.

Juno is a great character and I thought she was going to be evil but she turned out to be so much better than the Ushers. I love how creepy and freaky Roderick is to call her his ligodone flower. Fucking weird.

Morie was burned by acid and then had her teeth pulled out by Fredrick, she goes to be a good person and do so many good things in the name of her daughter.

Roderick has a line where he says that he reached through time and stole the eyes of an egyptian goddess for his sister and I love that energy. This line came up in Midnight Mass as well which is interesting.

He also his Lemon captialism speech which is great and fun. Madeline has some speeches as well but hers falls on deaf ears for me because she says that what they do isn't terrible and she blames the people but utlimately her company is what pushes the drugs out.

The show was fun and I wish it was scary but it was still good. While watching I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as thinking back on it. I think I was expecting more Haunting of Hill House and was disappointed I wasn't getting it.

The rain scene with Verna and Roderick was by far my favourite scene. I also love that Verna gave them resources but did not push them into going into the darkness, they did that all on their own.
