I'm really glad that I wrote down my initial thoughts as now I have a date stamp of when I started using copilot. It was on December 18, 2024.
Today, I ran out of credits as I get 2000 completions. So I went through 2k suggestions in about 18 days.
When I got the message that I had to either stop using copilot or upgrade, the decision was surprising quick. I paid for copilot immediately. At 10$, the time savings and ease at which I can develop javascript projects is way too useful. I have templates and various snippets saved up but being able to auto-generate a chunk of code and quickly verify it is useful.
I'm not paying to have copilot think for me and there are still many times that I simply disable Copilot as the suggestions are messing with my flow. But the boilerplate that it automates away is great. I don't need to write out a tag soup to simply create a list. I don't need to write out svelte loops. I don't need to fill in entire objects.
I went from 0 AI to 2 paid AI tools pretty quickly. Though the ChatGPT experiment doesn't look to be panning out yet. I'll see once I get to the end of my project.
I'm still a bit shocked at how quickly I wanted Copilot back in my editor.
